We are here to help when you have a pet emergency

If your pet needs help in an emergency, our team at Three Counties are here for them when they need it the most.

Three Counties Veterinary Emergencies was set up when a group of local practices came together to provide a dedicated out-of-hours service as a branch of Coombefield Veterinary Hospital (CVH) in May 2022. There is an experienced veterinary surgeon and veterinary nurse on site 24/7, to deliver a local and affordable small animal emergency service to clients of CVH and of our supporting member practices.

  • If you are worried about your pet’s health you would usually ring your own vet. If they are closed, you will now either be put through directly to the team at Three Counties, or our telephone number will be given to you via your vets’ answering machine.

If in doubt as to whether you pet is unwell, you should always give us a call. The veterinary nurse or veterinary surgeon can make an initial assessment over the phone, to see if your pet needs to be seen.

  • If you have an unwell pet and need emergency treatment you can use Three Counties Veterinary Emergencies if:

    • You are a registered client of Coombefield Veterinary Hospital
    • Or, if you are a registered client of one of our member practices in the area including: Kingfisher Veterinary Practice, Haydon Veterinary Centre, Oak Apple Veterinary Surgery
  • If your practice has chosen to use Three Counties Veterinary Emergencies, then please refer to your daytime vets opening hours to see when we are here for you. Whenever your practice is closed, we are here to help!

  • If you are a client of Coombefield Veterinary Hospital, the usual process out of hours has not changed.

If you have not visited us before, please alert the team of your arrival using the intercom outside the door. Your pet will then be assessed by our veterinary surgeon when you arrive and appropriate treatment will be given.

The emergency clinic operates on a triage basis. This means that in the most serious cases, where life-saving treatment may be needed, pets may be seen before other less critical cases. If the veterinary surgeon is already with another patient at the time of arrival, your pet will be triaged by our veterinary nurse.

Our night team are on-site all night, and if your pet has to stay with us you can be rest assured that they will be closely monitored and well looked after. Provided your pet is well enough, you will then be able to take them to see your own daytime vet for follow up treatment the next morning.

  • We have a dedicated team of night veterinary surgeons and nurses who also work at Coombefield Veterinary Hospital. These include:

    Veterinary Surgeons:

    • Jenny Ashby
    • Sheena Lewis
    • Ash Smith
    • Sam Raettig

    Veterinary Nurses

    • Amy Robinson
    • Allanna Partridge
    • Nathalie Ford

At the weekend our day work is provided by veterinary surgeons from all of the supporting member practices, and so you will always see a friendly and familiar face.

  • Clients pay an out of hours consultation fee, as well as the cost of any treatment given at the time of the visit. The cost for emergency treatment is unfortunately higher to reflect the increased cost of providing the service out of normal working hours, but an estimate for the out of hours consultation fee will be given after phoning for advice.
